The offseason has really just started but it feels like the season is ready to begin. When thinking of the Bengals in 2012 playmakers come to mind. The club surprised a lot of people with the rookie talent, but after falling pretty hard in the playoff game it was pretty certain they still need some help.
The only good thing that came from the loss was all the holes that were shown during the game. We knew after Chris Crcoker was run over by Arian Foster that we need help in the secondary. We also learned that Andy Dalton was a rookie.
A lot of times this season big plays couldn't be stopped. We learned that when pressure was on AJ Green that Jerome Simpson is not the number 2 guy, because when I think of the number 2 reciever I think of someone who can step up and play that number 1 spot at any time.
I think of the two top wideouts on the team as the very best. I am pretty sure you can't compare the two when talking about Green and Simpson unless you were talking about TD celebration flips.
Luckily, the Bengals are in a good spot. They know what they need now. They have a year experience under the belt for one of the hopefully greatest quarterback and reciever duo in team in history.
They have 60 million dollars to spend. They have plenty of draft picks two key ones in the first round. They will have hopefully a healthy Dunlap and Atkins pass rush duo. They are also in a good spot when you look at free agent playmakers that are avaialble..one that comes to mind Mike Wallace. Wallace was a fun reciever to watch for Pittsburgh this season. Wallace was a third round pick in the draft so some may say the Bengals should wait and draft another.
I don't about you, but I'm not ready to draft a reciever. The Bengals got lucky when getting AJ Green and by lucky I mean having an awful season the year before and getting a pick early. We all knew AJ was going to be a star before the draft it wasn't too surprising, but the chances of finding another guy like him in the draft probably not possible this year.
With Wallace we've seen him play.. a 2011 Pro Bowl performer, finished first among AFC North wide receivers with 72 catches and 1,193 yards.
I guess we'll see the Steelers have until March 5th to use the Franchise tag or lose him.
