Bengals
The Bengals today made the following roster moves:
* Signed rookie LB Emmanuel Lamur to the roster from the Bengals practice squad. Lamur (6-4, 232; Kansas State) signed with the Bengals in May as a college free agent. He played in all four of the team’s preseason games, logging six tackles. He was waived on Aug. 31 and signed Sept. 1 to the practice squad.
* Placed second-year LB Dontay Moch on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list, due to chronic migraines. Moch played in one game this season, Oct. 14 at Cleveland.

Peers tab Billy Hamilton for stardom
MLB.com
MLB.com conducted a survey of the participants in the 2012 Rising Stars Game, asking each a simple question: Who in the game, other than yourself, do you think is the most likely to become a Major League star? A total of 34 players responded, providing a wide range of responses.
There was no runaway winner, though two up-the-middle players did tie for the most votes, one just starting on his pro career, another just starting on a new position. Mariners catching prospect Mike Zunino and Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton tied with five votes apiece
Chicago White Sox have promoted Buddy Bell to VP/Assistant GM.

12. Angel Pagan
Age: 31
Position: OF
2012 Stats: .288/.338/.440, 8 HR, 56 RBI, 29 SB
Current Team: Giants
Best Fit: Reds
The Giants were the obvious winners of the December 2011 trade in which they acquired Pagan from the Mets for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez. Pagan had an excellent all-around season, and San Francisco's surge to the World Series title really took off when it put him back in the leadoff spot in early August. The Reds' top off-season priority -- perhaps their only off-season priority -- is to acquire a leadoff-hitting centerfielder. Should they find themselves outbid for Bourn (and perhaps Upton), they could turn to Pagan.

Fan behavior
Treatment of fans at Bengals game upsetting
Letters to the Editor, Enquirer
we were spit on, had beer thrown at us, and were verbally abused by a group of Bengals fans. We paid a good deal of money to see the game and for three hours endured being called disgusting names and had profanity hurled at us. We called the “JERK line” twice and even reported them to the police. The officer asked my husband if he “realised we were at a football game?” as if this excused the behavior.
Babin rips Eagles fan section for 'vile' chants
CSNPhilly.com
... during the game there was a good section of fans chanting some of the most vile things I’ve ever heard,” Babin said. “Not just at a football game, but in life, in general. Talking about attacking Coach (Andy Reid), talking about people’s wives and kids and chanting them. And I just thought there was no place for that in the NFL, none whatsoever.

Bearcats try to hurry to a title
AP
CINCINNATI (AP) - Point guard Cashmere Wright thought about Cincinnati's offense last season - a half-court approach that revolved around power forward Yancy Gates - and shuddered.
"Dreadful,'' Wright said. "Horrible.''
The Bearcats are done with it.
"I'll tell you what: If we see that, it's a bad season going on,'' the senior said. "Something ain't right.''

Surprise reunion
Central Oregonian
“This is the coolest thing I have been a part of,” said Crook County JV?coach Ernie Brooks on his Facebook account.
Captains from both teams marched to the center of the field prior to the start of the game to the announcement that a special guest would have the honor of doing the coin toss. When Crook County captain Michael Seyl turned around to see who the special guest was, he was surprised to see his mother, Sergeant First Class Misti Chastain, standing behind him in combat fatigues.
Chastain had been deployed in Kabul, Afghanistan, for the past 14 months. Although, Seyl knew that his mother had returned to the United States, he did not know when she would make it back to Prineville.
Marathon presses on as backlash builds
NY Times
With the death count from Hurricane Sandy growing, hundreds of thousands still without power, and air, rail and ferry service struggling to resume, some runners and elected officials have called for Sunday’s marathon to be canceled or postponed. Police, fire and other essential public services, they said, should be focused on helping those most in need.
First responders are not the only ones questioning the wisdom of holding the race. People on Staten Island are particularly angry that their borough is being used as a jumping-off point for the race while critical services for those stranded by the storm are not getting through.
The extra point must go
Washington Post
What’s the point of the extra point? If the NFL success rate is over 99%, why even have it? Why not simply give 7 points for a touchdown and allow a team to choose to gamble the 7th point on a two-point conversion attempt? It would shorten the games and might reduce injuries ever so slightly. It would also end the farce that the kick has become.

Also up for auction in coming weeks are baseball star Ozzie Smith's Gold Gloves, Evander Holyfield's boxing championship belts and an original of the agreement Pete Rose signed when he was banned from baseball for life in 1989.
